This 'guy' may be more than five times as big as a typical desert butterfly, but he does sit still long enough to have his picture taken. A more typical desert butterfly is likely to be a tenth this size. From a distance their wings may seem to be in color a solid light burnt orange, violet or yellow. Up close the shadings of color are amazing. But when I attempt to take their picture they tend to flutter by too quickly.
